What is roulette?

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games, even though it is one of the oldest: it proves to be one that always stays in fashion, generation after generation.

Simple to understand, easy to play, this casino game and its most thrilling variations are quite easy to excel at. It is however important to keep in mind that it is governed by chance above all. Even though it is possible to defy chance with game strategies based on logic and mathematical reasoning linked to probabilities, it is difficult to adopt game tactics that are foolproof on the long term.

When chance is around: no more bets...

How to play roulette?

This game offers different variations: the most popular are on the one hand French roulette, also called European roulette, and on the other hand American roulette. Other variations like English roulette and Mexican roulette also exist, the latter being the riskier.

The aim of each of those variations is always the same: placing a bet on the winning number, in order to increase your profits.

The game is comprised first of all of a wheel, also called cylinder: depending on the variation, it is made of 37 pockets for the European and 38 for the American, which are numbered from 1 to 36, alternating between red and black.

The remaining pocket in the European variation is coloured in green and displays a zero, while the two remaining pockets for American roulette are numbered 0 and 00. These special boxes, which are neither red nor black, are the source of your losses of bets and are actually players' enemies.

Roulette is also played with specific chips, whose colours change from one player to the other, in order to make it easy to recognise them when they are placed on the baize. The game baize, or game table, includes a layout where the numbers and colours of the pockets on the wheel are represented.

The croupier is the main character in the game: once the players have placed their bets, he utters the famous words “no more bets” and turns the wheel anti-clockwise, while throwing a small white marble, clockwise this time.

As soon as the marble stops on one of the boxes, the croupier announces the winning number and also mentions its colour.

Contents of the roulette section

For beginners, as well as for experts of the game, it is above all about knowing the main bets it is possible to place.

This section gives you information about inside and outside bets, but it also gives you advice on errors to avoid and recommendations you need to take into account if you want to increase your chances to win.

Moreover, it is absolutely necessary for you to get familiar with the most efficient and popular game techniques, such as martingales, which are the source of an increase in your profits and can most of all decrease your chances to lose.

Finally, it is important to know how to play while risking to lose everything, something that is particularly obvious with the winning number 0, which can lead you to lose half or even the totality of your bet in one spin. Excelling on roulette tables also means being able to put an upper limit to your bets and remaining cautious when it comes to placing bets.
